"Electric Legacy is less a tribute record than a souvenir album. A musical remembrance of happy moments I spent with my fellows and masters in electronic music, Edgar Froese, Klaus Schulze, Florian Schneider, Manuel Göttsching and Vangelis. All these guys passed away, but they're still alive in our memory. The survivors and heirs have to pay their dues. That’s what I do." (HP) Composed, performed and produced by Hervé Picart Album available on Bandcamp (free download): osemusic3.bandcamp.com 00.00 01 The Tangelo Transfer (Edgar, Berlin, February 78) Edgar’s smile was rare. But, on that winter evening at his place in Berlin, he was really radiant. Same broad smile he had three years ago in Avignon, as I met the band after his brilliant gig at Orange Festival. He was so happy with the performance of the band. As happy as he was, on that German night at home, with the final production of Cyclone, the fresh album introducing the new Tangerine Dream line up. He was laughing and joking, affectionately holding Monique's hand. It was the perfect image of an overjoyed man. 13.05 02 Dreams of Larimar (Klaus, Lyon, April 77) It was a sunny spring afternoon near Lyon, in a garden full of fresh flowers and blossoms. Klaus, all white dressed, as usual, enjoys the warmth of the sunshine, like a lizard on a wall. It was so unusual to see this room creature, this angel of electronic nights, so happy in the daylight. Spring seemed stimulating him, his mind was full of new musical prospects. And, incredible but true, it was the only one interview I did open air in my thirty years journalist career... 23.26 03 The Düsseldorf Experiment Phase One (Florian, Düsseldorf, March 78 33.02 04 The Düsseldorf Experiment Phase Two (FSE1, somewhere in eternity) It was the night in Düsseldorf. Florian drove his vintage Mercedes all around the city, wearing leather gloves, Ralf beside him. These two gentlemen spoke perfect French, out of consideration for the guest I was. Sitting on the back seat, I listened to Man Machine for the first time. A motorway premiere. Wir fahren, fahren, fahren auf der Autobahn. A night to remember. 39.26 05 Golden Ashes, Mourning Suns (Manuel, London, August 77) There was a festive atmosphere at Regent's Park open air theatre. The colored beams of Laser Graphics floodlit the night, illuminating the Ash Ra music. Previously in the afternoon, Manuel and I shared a rainy teatime. Looking at the drops on the windows, we remembered our first meeting, on a sunny evening in Arles, two years ago. Ash Ra played at Antique Theater. I keep in my memory those two magic moments, two midsummer's dreams. 48.28 06 Aegean Sunrise (Evangelos, Brussels, May 79) That night in Brussels, after his brilliant concert at Le Cirque Royal, performing China with symphonic orchestra and choir, Vangelis was a Greek guy more than ever: good-natured and proud. Ever welcoming, happy to host his friends in that medieval restaurant near St Michel and Gudule. Proud to introduce to me his parents. Proud of his afternoon gig, a kind of musical achievement for him. I like the Greek people, good-natured and proud, and I liked that Hellenic genius.
