How to Get On and Off a Chairlift with a Snowboard

The only obstacle between you and the slopes is the dreaded chairlift. Watch as Sunglass Rob and Kevin from SnowboardProCamp talk Tips for Getting On and Off the Chairlift. First, familiarize yourself with gliding on your snowboard. With your front foot strapped in, practice taking a couple steps to prepare for the chair. Learning how to maneuver will make getting to and from the chairlift much easier. Next, as you’re waiting in line, observe how other riders prepare to get on the chairlift. Watch where they stop, where they wait, and how they get on. You don’t need to memorize a process, just imitate what worked in front of you. Side note about safety rail etiquette. If you’re on the chairlift with a stranger, ask before putting the safety rail down. Don’t assume they’re ready and accidently knock them on the back of the head. Then, when you’re sitting comfortably in the chair, check your gear is properly fastened. Your mitts or gloves, your helmet, and any other loose articles. When you’re getting to the top, you can prepare to get off the lift. Position your body sideways to get your board pointed straight. You’ll know it’s time to unload when the ground comes to you. Step off, place your free foot behind your back binding, and head down the slope. A beginner friendly entry will have a gentler decline, but even if it’s steep the process is the same. If you need to slow down, either drag your heel or toe to come to a comfortable speed. That’s it! Now go shred some powder.
