Mechanical Thrombectomy is a minimally invasive procedure to treat arterial blockages caused by blood clots after a stroke. Doctors may advise the patient to stop taking blood-thinning medicines before the surgery. At the time of the surgery, the doctor administers anaesthesia to the patient through IV and makes an incision on their leg or collar bone. A balloon-tip catheter is inserted through this incision and guided to the clot. The clot is dislodged and removed after inflating the balloon on the catheter and subsequently pulling it away.
