A story of the Father, the Son, & the Student. A documentary that I made a couple years ago in film school. It is meant more than for just film festivals, but a lesson of life, history, & warrior culture. The long-lived martial art of the Philippines - Arnis, Eskrima, & Kali is a respected, battle-tested lethal form of defense. The world of Bladed Warriors introduces inspirational individuals who’ve practiced the art their entire lives. Through their stories, I learned the foundation of Eskrima history from Filipino & American culture. Within different fields of practice & studies from the Philippines to Stockton, CA; this art has influenced many communities. Ultimately, shedding light upon Eskrima and its use for self-defense for people of all ages, ethnicities, and background. By WW2, one man would carry out the legacy of this art in teaching his fellow Filipino & American troops during the crucial events of jungle warfare. His name was Grandmaster Leo Giron. Preceding the victory over Japan, Giron embarked on his journey to Stockton, CA where he would share his knowledge of Filipino culture & self-defense; teaching both the old & the new. Many of Giron’s younger students who grew older, would share his knowledge with the rest of the world - represented in Cinema, literature, & multimedia - Even today this art has influenced stuntmen/actors like Bruce Lee, famous filmmakers alike, and government agencies of both military & law enforcement. Above everything learned from this art of self-defense - this art contributes to our Warrior Spirit. Helping those discover their inner selves. This is a love letter to our elders & a message for future generations to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams.
