Historically, three events gave birth to the following three unique identities: ** July 4,1776, the Declaration of Independence gave birth to “American”. ** June 12,1898, Emilio Aguinaldo declared independence from Spain giving birth to “Filipino”. ** August 1971, riding the crest of the Civil Rights Movement, the inaugural Young Filipino Peoples' Far West Convention (YFPFWC) gave birth to a new identity, “Filipino American”. Despite no official audio recordings, no videos, no selfies, rare photos (in focus), and limited written documentation, this four-day, 3-night event is unanimously recognized as the birth of the Filipino American movement for social equity in these United States. Fifty years later, it is time to answer... what happened? Time to finally set the record straight. Learn history from makers of that pivotal moment in history. Join us for this two-day event featuring YFPFWC attendees who were there. Learn from their personal perspectives on how the event shaped their journey in developing today’s awareness and consciousness of Filipino Americanism. This two-day National FANHS segment will be moderated by Dr. Dorothy Laigo Cordova and Emil Guillermo. They will conduct lively, oral history interviews among a diverse group of conference attendees. Invited interviewees include: Ogilvie, Flores, Quintero, Menor, Miguel, Dayanot, Bergano, Lagasca, Rodis, Jamero, Batayola, Ibanez, Syquia, Amutan, Pascua, Begonia, Rinonas, Markley Informational Packet https://docs.google.com/document/d/1c...
