In my time studying Western Pond Turtles (Actinemys marmorata / Actinemys pallida) in the wild over the last 20+ years, I have adopted a more observational approach that has allowed me the unique opportunity to witness and record pivotal moments in these species' natural history: courtship, mating, nest construction, egg-laying, and more. Western Pond Turtles - Between Two Shells marks the culmination of my attempt to spend more time as an observer of these remarkable species. By taking the time to watch, and to learn their habits, I'd like to think I earned their trust - enough so to capture so much of what I've witnessed on "film" and am humbled to share with you here. Biography Matthew Bettelheim is a Certified Wildlife Biologist, freelance science writer, and natural historian.
