"In the Still of the Night" by The Five Satins is a classic doo-wop ballad that was first released in 1956. Written by group member Fred Parris, the song is known for its smooth harmonies, romantic lyrics, and the signature echoing "shooby doo" background vocals that helped define the doo-wop genre. The song was recorded in the basement of a New Haven, Connecticut church, giving it a raw and intimate sound that contributed to its nostalgic charm. Although it only reached No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at the time, it would hit the charts twice more in 1960 and 1961. It is only one of three songs to have ever achieved this status, the other two being “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Monster Mash”. The song became one of the most enduring and beloved songs of the 1950s, frequently featured on oldies compilations and in films such as Dirty Dancing. Over the decades, "In the Still of the Night" has been covered by numerous artists and remains a staple of 1950s American music.
