Entre el mono y el monje - between the monkey and the monk | Swing Original Monks | TEDxQuito

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Swing Original Monk's performance lightens up the audience with their fusion music. With musicians from Latin American, Europe and the United States, Swing Original Monks breaks energetically into the Ecuadorian musical scenery at the beginning of 2010, playing in bars, discos and other stages in the local surroundings. After a few months of adventures, the creative fury, wit and non- conventional proposal of S.O.M. gets them to share stage along side important performers of the country at the Festival "Petronio Álvarez" in Cali, Colombia, to later representing Ecuador in the Book Fair in Santiago de Chile. In 2014 S.O.M. go on their first international tour through Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Italy and the United States. In their own words, they “extract the essence of popular music in boiling water, and sweeten it with urban poetry, serving it with crackers. Then they tore a handful of modern rhythms, chop them and fry them with exotic spices”. A treat!
