Last week we looked at the ArcGIS Online Scene Viewer. Here we have Magilligan Strand on the north coast shown on the scene viewer and you can see that as well as the imagery basemap, I have features plotted on the map. When I click on these features, you can see a photo of the view from that location. This can be useful for virtual fieldwork as you are providing extra context for students. So here's how to add photos to your map or scene. First I will go to the map viewer and again I am looking at Magilligan Strand. One way to do this is to click Add, Map Notes. I will leave this as the default template and click Create. I then choose the pinpoint and place it on the map, at the entrance to the beach. I provide a name and description for this point. It asks me for an image URL. My images are in a shared Google Photos album. I click on the image I want to use, right click and choose Copy Image Address, which is different from the URL at the top. I then paste that into the map viewer and click Close. I click off the Edit tool so now when I click on this feature I can see the photo. Another option is to upload the image to your ArcGIS Online Content, share the image with everyone and paste the link from the content page into your map. So here I am adding a second feature and pasting in the link of the image from ArcGIS Online. I click Close, turn off Edit mode and click on the point to see my image. I would then save my map notes layer and publish it as a feature service so that I can share it with others, edit it in the future and add it to other maps and scenes. Back in the scene viewer, I have added this feature service showing all of my points with their photos. I can navigate around the scene to look at the beach from different angles and then click on the features to see the photos. #ArcGIS #ArcGISOnline #GIS About Esri Ireland: Esri Ireland specialises in the application of geographic information systems, helping customers record where things happen and analyse why, with the aim of providing insight and helping them to make better decisions.
