In this episode, we explore the mesmerising tangle Paradox used as a reticula (framework). The delightful paradox of the Paradox tangle is that a spiral emerges from nothing but straight lines. By connecting short line segments from one side of a shape to the next, the pattern begins to twist inward, forming a beautifully curved spiral that feels almost logarithmic—even though every line is perfectly straight. How the pattern works: Paradox begins inside a geometric shape such as a square or triangle. Starting from one corner, short straight lines connect to the next side of the shape. Each new line begins where the previous one ended, rotating around the shape as you go. As the lines continue inward in the same direction, a spiral illusion appears. Changing direction creates fan-like forms instead of spirals. In this artwork, we begin with a square and divide it into four sections. A Paradox spiral is drawn in each section, creating elegant fan-shaped leaf forms. The edges are gently rounded so the segments resemble flower petals, and each petal is filled with delicate dot work for texture. The piece begins as white ink on black, and then the magic happens—the white areas are layered with fluorescent neon inks, transforming the drawing into a technicolour glow. The finished artwork blooms into a radiant geometric garden: a hypnotic square mandala of swirling fan shapes and layered teardrop forms glowing in neon greens, yellows, oranges, pinks and soft purples. Rows of tiny neon dots add texture within each segment, while a delicate scalloped white border of orbs frames the design. Against the deep black background, the colours feel electric—like a kaleidoscope caught mid-spin. Beyond the glow, this is also art therapy in motion. Drawing repetitive patterns like Paradox can quiet the mind, slow racing thoughts, and create a gentle meditative rhythm. Pair that calming focus with vibrant neon colour and the result is both energising and relaxing—a perfect balance for creative self-care. So grab a pen, turn up the music, and join the glow. #zentangle #neonart #patternart #mandalaart #abstractart #arttherapy #geometricart #doodleart #meditativeart #inkdrawing
