In Matthew 19, we encounter a profound unveiling of the requirements of the kingdom of the heavens. What may appear as three unrelated events—questions about divorce, the blessing of little children, and the rich young man seeking eternal life—are intentionally arranged to expose the inward conditions necessary for entering the kingdom’s reality and manifestation. This chapter is not merely about salvation; it is about the kingdom life. First, the Lord addresses divorce by bringing the Pharisees back to God’s original ordination in Genesis. The kingdom does not operate on human concessions caused by hardness of heart—it calls us back to God’s original intention. Here, the issue of lust is exposed. Without a thorough dealing with lust by grace, there can be no genuine kingdom living. Second, the Lord receives the little children, revealing that the kingdom belongs to those who are childlike—humble, simple, and dependent. After dealing with lust and before addressing wealth, the Lord highlights the necessity of inward simplicity and freedom from pride. Third, the rich young man’s sorrow exposes the grip of covetousness. The kingdom requires not merely outward morality, but inward detachment from the love of riches. Wealth binds the soul just as lust binds the flesh—and both must be dealt with by divine grace. Matthew 19 reveals three vital kingdom requirements: A thorough dealing with lust Childlike humility and simplicity Freedom from the love of wealth The kingdom is serious. It demands recovery—a return to God’s original ordination—and it requires grace to live beyond our natural capacity. May we pray: “Lord, bring me back to Your original ordination. Grant me grace to deal with lust. Give me a childlike heart. Free me from the love of riches. Make me fit for the kingdom of the heavens.” This message is based on spiritual materials found at lsm.org.
