The Hawkeyes improved to 19-9 overall and 9-8 in conference play. Senior Sydney Affolter set a new career high in tonight’s match up with 24 points and 11 rebounds recording her sixth double-double this season. Senior Lucy Olsen added 20 points including four three-pointers and five rebounds, while junior Hannah Stuelke contributed 13 points and five rebounds. Stuelke started the scoring with a layup, followed by a three-pointer from Affolter, who paced the scoring in the first quarter with 14 points. The Hawkeyes hit a three minute scoring drought, allowing the Wolverines to go on an 8-0 run. Affolter responded by scoring eight straight points, then capped off a perfect 4-for-4 performance from beyond the arc with another three-pointer, giving Iowa a 25-18 lead at the end of the period. In the second quarter, Olsen caught fire from deep, going 4-for-4 from three and leading the period with 16 points after being held scoreless in the first. Iowa capitalized on multiple scoring runs, including a 10-2 surge in the final two minutes, extending its lead to a game-high 19 points. Michigan’s Brooke Quarles-Daniels hit a jumper at the buzzer, cutting the deficit slightly, but the Hawkeyes still took a 49-32 lead into halftime. In the third, Stuelke opened with four straight points. Michigan answered with a 5-0 run; however, Affolter halted the run with a bucket at the 6:19 mark, setting a new career high. The Wolverines maintained their momentum, going on a dominant 15-2 run to cut the deficit to six. Senior Kylie Feuerbach added a fast-break layup in the final minute, but Michigan outscored Iowa by nine in the quarter, trimming the Hawkeyes' lead to 64-56, heading into the final stretch. Iowa regained control in the fourth quarter, outscoring Michigan, 15-10. The Hawkeyes dominated the boards in the second half, securing a 19-15 rebounding edge, and the defense forced 16 turnovers, converting them into 28 points throughout the game.
