The haunting screams heard during the 911 call were played in court for both Trayvon Martin's and George Zimmerman's mothers to hear. Both gave conflicting testimonies on who they believed was screaming in the 911 call. Both testified that they knew the screams of their sons and that the screaming was that of their own sons. Other family members were brought in to testify as well. Trayvon's brother testified that he believed it was his brother Trayvon screaming while Zimmerman's uncle testified that he believed it was his nephew George Zimmerman. The identity of the person screaming for help is arguably the most important part of this trial. Simply put, if it was Trayvon screaming, then it would not support Zimmerman's self-defense claim. If it was Zimmerman screaming, then it would support Zimmerman's claim that he was attacked and acted in self-defense. Zimmerman has maintained that it was him screaming when Trayvon was on top of him and smashing his head against the sidewalk. During opening statements, Zimmerman's lawyer Don West said that it is scientifically impossible to discern who the person screaming is. West said that in traumatic life or death situations, a grown man's scream can sound like a young girl's scream. This must have been a heart wrenching moment for both mothers -- Zimmerman's mother listening to what she believed to be her son screaming as he was being attacked to the point of killing and Trayvon's mother listening to what she believed to be her son screaming for help in his last moments alive. In the police reenactment video, George Zimmerman explains what happened step-by-step to police officers the day after the killing. In that video, Zimmerman yells for help. People might compare this yell with the yell in the 911 call, but in the re-enactment he does not say it in a manner he would if his life was in danger. So it's probably not a good reference to compare with the 911 call.
