Welcome back to a new video! Our Eurovision 2023 lineup has managed to make it to April intact as 37 countries without any disqualifications, but others weren't so lucky. This video will look at the 12 entries that withdrew or were disqualified BEFORE the contest (*2024 edit so I don't have to redo the video so soon) WITHOUT a replacement. I have tried to be as informative and concise as possible in these explanations. Since this isn't exactly a scholarly article I have no shame in saying my sources are primarily Wikipedia, and also the very helpful euroscoreboards.wordpress.com for a few minor details. My criteria for what counts as a withdrawn or disqualified entry depends on if there was a period of time when the entry was considered to be going to Eurovision, or at very least the national final was thought to be selecting the act that won the right to compete. This means that entries like Portugal 1970 and Yugoslavia 1985 will not be included, as the decision to withdraw was made long before they held their national song festivals that would've happened anyway. Liechtenstein's attempt in 1976 is also not included as they were never eligible in the first place, and there is very limited information on both Maltese entries in the 70s to suggest anything other than them not wanting to participate originally. There is also another video on all the songs that were replaced for Eurovision, so if you think a certain entry is missing here then it's probably going to be in that one. Other than that, if you think something is missing, then leave a comment and it may appear in an updated version! Intro music: Frida Gold - "Alle Frauen in mir sind müde," a withdrawn entry from the German national final this year
