On March 13th, six Iranian ballistic missiles struck Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates. The missiles hit aircraft shelters housing U.S. F-35A stealth fighters. Seven F-35s were destroyed. Twelve American airmen were killed. The attack happened at 3:22 AM. By 2:00 PM that same day, the UAE ambassador delivered a message to U.S. Central Command: the UAE cannot guarantee the safety of American forces and is requesting withdrawal within 48 hours. That's a Gulf ally telling the United States to leave after hosting U.S. forces for over 20 years. Iran used Khorramshahr-4 ballistic missiles with 2-5 meter precision targeting. They didn't hit empty shelters or older aircraft—they hit the exact shelters where F-35s were parked using satellite imagery and intelligence. Each F-35A costs $80-100 million. Seven destroyed equals $560-700 million in losses. But the strategic cost is far higher: the UAE just became the first Gulf state to publicly break with America during active combat. The UAE is 150 miles from Iran across the Persian Gulf. Iranian missiles can reach Abu Dhabi in 6-8 minutes. UAE has THAAD and Patriot systems, but they cannot provide reliable area defense against Iranian ballistic missile barrages. UAE leadership calculated: if Iran can destroy seven F-35s on a heavily defended U.S. air base, Iran can destroy anything in the UAE—oil refineries, desalination plants, Dubai's financial district, the Burj Khalifa. If Iran launches 20 missiles at Dubai, maybe UAE intercepts 15, but 5 get through. Five missiles hitting central Dubai destroys the UAE's economic model built on stability and foreign investment. UAE's message: "We cannot guarantee safety of U.S. personnel at Al Dhafra" and requested "phased withdrawal within 48 hours." That's not "increase security measures." That's "we need you to leave." The UAE chose survival over alliance. And the cascade begins: if UAE forces U.S. out, Saudi Arabia follows at Prince Sultan Air Base (already hit March 11th). Then Qatar closes Al Udeid (10,000 U.S. troops). U.S. loses every major Gulf base. Iran wins without firing another shot. This mirrors 1983 Beirut: Marine barracks bombed, 241 killed, U.S. withdrew by February 1984. Lebanon couldn't guarantee security. Reagan pulled out. UAE 2026 is Beirut 1983—ally abandons U.S. under fire. March 11: Iran hits Prince Sultan (Saudi). March 13: Iran destroys 7 F-35s (UAE requests withdrawal). March 14: Qatar foreign minister won't commit to keeping Al Udeid open. Four days, three Gulf states, all moving toward same conclusion: hosting Americans isn't worth Iranian missiles .
