In this weeks "Who lived in a house like this?" episode, I explore some of the most fascinating and often overlooked buildings at the Ulster Folk Museum near Belfast, it's one of the most immersive living history museums I’ve ever visited and I think you will love it! In this video I visit the remainder of my highlights (my three favourite houses can be found in my previous video here: • Three 1900s Homes | Victorian and Edwardia... ) Another workers cottage from Tea Lane The Dromore Railway Porter’s House, showing the life of railway staff The Cushendall Market & Court House — a rare surviving rural courthouse built by a landlord with East India Company wealth A fully restored Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) Barracks, including the dayroom and lock-up Basket-maker’s and fisherman’s cottages from Ballyvollen, with authentic tools and interiors The Lismacloskey Old Rectory, built in the “English style” and among the museum’s best-loved buildings. The Newtownards Parochial House, showing the domestic life of the Church of Ireland clergy. Ballycultra Dispensary, a glimpse into rural medicine Sloane’s Draper’s Shop and Weaving Shed — showcasing the intersection of fashion and rural enterprise Throughout, I explore how these buildings were originally used, where they came from, who lived and worked in them, and what their lives were really like. Expect facts on wages, diet, domestic life, architecture, and the social history of love in Ireland in the 1800s and early 1900s. 📍 Filmed entirely on location at the Ulster Folk Museum, Northern Ireland, by me, Lucy. I am a social historian and your serially nosy friend! Love history and museums .. while exploring new places for good measure?
