Having a look at all the analog full power stations in Tirana, Albania. (Balkans) There are around 19 channels left and the switchoff is planed for 1st September 2019 but it has been postponed multiple times. Update 2023: Tirana TV transmitters were switched off October 2019. For a few days after the planned date, the TV test cards were still being transmitted. I managed to record the RTV Ora channel going offline, however since there was no coordination between operators, many signals were still being received days after leaving me with hours of VHS recordings that kept going as normal. Multiple other low power transmitters remained until late 2022. The last high power transmitter was switched off on the 30th December 2020 in Gjirokaster and Kukes. There were 4 channels on these transmitters, unlike the ones from major cities. Kukes KTV was receivable in Tirana on days with good weather, however only in B&W. Elbasan transmitter, which was still receivable in Tirana was switched off in March 2020. Many of the low power switchoffs were postponed due to COVID and lack of replacement DTV towers. The analog tv transmissions were simulcasts of the DTV stream, this was only done in the last few years. Prior to around 2017 channels operated different streams for PAL and DVB-T2, in the correct aspect ratio and carrying different ident and channel logos. Nowadays, analog tv is basically dead in Albania, except for the few old TV vans that still advertise "UHF channel 67" on them. Many smaller stations still use the old equiptment, especially regional ones, only transmitting at 576p on DTV, clearly visible that their studio is still running on most likely DVCAMs from the early 2000s. I have fond memories of PAL tv in Albania. We used to make aerials from old coca cola cans and SONY Watchmans were still usable. I used to take my Watchman on school trips, we even watched a football game on it before everyone had smartphones. We got colour TV around 1982 and B&W transmissions started in the late 1960s. From what I can gather, east german and soviet equiptment was used.
