We recently crossed the one year mark of the purchase of our New Holland Workmaster 75. With right at 200 hours on this cab tractor, I would say we are well acquainted. In short, this tractor was a great purchase. Like many people, we started with a much smaller tractor, then upgraded out of necessity. I know many people who have done the same. The price tag on a larger cab tractor may be a bit scary, if you are buying your first tractor, but it is much cheaper to buy right the first time. Buy cheap, buy twice!!! We went with New Holland for a few reasons. The Workmaster series is the economy version of their utility tractors. Yes, the economy version. When you see ours, this will surprise you. The Workmaster 75 is very well equipped and highly capable. I had difficulty coming up with things I do not like about the Workmaster 75 and there is no shortage of things we appreciate. Most notably, the 3,500 pound lift capacity of this tractor has been a life saver. Lifting large round bales from the top stack on the back of an eighteen wheeler is no issue. If the round bales are small, this tractor can spear and carry two at a time on the front and one on the back, without trouble. When the well ran dry and we were hauling water for the ranch, the tractor was invaluable when lifting, moving, and carrying 300 gallon totes weighing over 2,500 pounds. You will see some of this action in this episode. In hindsight, we should have spent more time discussing the value of having a cab versus no cab. The cab tractor wins every time. Not only are you able to work longer and more consistently in an array of conditions, but, from a safety perspective, there are significant benefits. People die in Texas every year, mowing pastures and brush, when they find a yellow jacket nest with their brush hog or mower. In Central Texas, we have no shortage of flying, stinging insects these little guys will ruin your day, if you happen to stumble across a nest with your mower. The protection of a cab tractor is very nice in these rare moments. Also, when doing monotonous work in the Summer, such as driving in circles in the heat of the day, heat exhaustion can be a problem, especially for those seasoned farmers and ranchers who refuse to slow down (again, no shortage of these hardened people in central Texas). Instead of pushing the limits of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, for the sake of getting the job done now, consider jumping into a climate controlled cab tractor. In a cab tractor, you never have to stop! From my research and experience, the New Holland Workmaster 75 is likely the best value cab tractor in 2024. You will see our Workmaster in most episodes. It is an essential tool for a wide array of daily, weekly, and monthly, and annual tasks on the ranch. Check out New Holland on YouTube @NewHollandNA. On the web at www.agriculture.newhholland.com. You may want to check out the construction side of New Holland as well. They carry a full line of Skid Steers, Excavators, and just about every other piece of equipment you may need in the fields of agriculture or construction. If, like me, you are so impressed by the brand and their advancements, you can follow the parent company: CNH Industrial to learn about their advancements, the company’s direction, and their overall market position. CNH Industrial is traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Their symbol is CNHI. After owning this machine and learning about the company, I was not afraid to add a few shares of CNHI to our investment portfolio. A very special thank you to Esko the Ranch Dog. He is my best friend and a great partner in ranching. This year, he turns 11 years old and is still going strong. Stay tuned for many more adventures with Esko!
