Join us for a discussion of end-of-life care under California’s End of Life Option Act (EOLOA), which permits adults with a life expectancy of less than six months to request medication to end their lives. This Grand Rounds will explore the history of EOLOA policy, UCSF’s approach to supporting patients pursuing this path, and key clinical lessons learned through implementation. Speakers will highlight special circumstances that can complicate care and share emerging insights on how UCSF is navigating the complexities and opportunities in this space. Speakers: Brieze Bell, MD, is an assistant professor in the Divisions of Palliative Medicine and Hospital Medicine at UCSF Health and the medical director of the UCSF End of Life Option Act. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and fellowships in Palliative Medicine and Integrative Medicine at UCSF. Eve Cohen, RN, BSN, is a palliative care nurse and the nurse program coordinator for the UCSF Palliative Care Clinic, a multidisciplinary team that focuses on improving quality of life for patients with serious illnesses. Teddy Scheel, LCSW, MPH, is a social work supervisor at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he co-manages the Oncology Social Work Department. In addition, he serves as a palliative care social worker in the Division of Palliative Medicine at UCSF Health. He previously completed his internship at the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center.
