Housing First: Efficacy, Limitations, and Future Directions | Drug Researchers' Roundtable

Researchers understand housing stability as a key factor impacting individual and community health. Drug policy reformers have long advocated for “Housing First” - the provision of immediate housing and access to supportive services without requiring abstinence from drugs - as a way to improve the health and safety of people who use drugs. In this Drug Researchers' Roundtable, Dr. Stephen Hwang presented on Canada’s At Home/Chez Soi, the largest randomized controlled trial in history to evaluate Housing First for unhoused people with mental health challenges. He reflected on the expected and actual outcomes of Housing First interventions and offered potential interventions to improve Housing First models. Paul Boden provided an on-the-ground perspective of the impact of housing stability on people who use drugs in the U.S. and reflected on insights from Dr. Hwang’s presentation. Presenters: · Paul Boden, Executive Director of Western Regional Advocacy Project · Dr. Stephen Hwang, Director of MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions Recording date: March 30, 2023 For more educational content, check out our main channel at    / drugpolicyalliance   The Drug Policy Alliance is building a world without the drug war where people who use drugs are supported, not punished.
