Goodyear welts are widely seen as the mark of a solid pair of boots. It refers to a strip of material (usually leather) fit between the leather upper and the sole. The upper and the sole are attached to the welt, but they're not attached to each other. This makes it way easier to resole and it also provides a tight seal against water, so these boots are water resistant. 4 Types of Goodyear Welts 270-degree (or 3/4 welt): The stitching ends around the heel, making for a sleeker looking heel.
