Modernism in Music | Modern Classical Music In the fourth of our music history video series we explore the changes and developments of the turn of the 20th century that led to the modern period in classical music (often referred to as modernism). The period of upheaval and change in history also led to upheaval and innovation in the arts and sciences. With these changes Western Art music, classical music, changed in many ways, developing new genres and styles and encouraging experimentation such as atonality. ***Correction at 4:00 the painter Henri Regnault is mentioned in connection with impressionism. He is not relevant because he didn't paint in an impressionist style. A better selection would have been Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Join us as we delve into the details of this essential period in classical music history.
