Just one month after the passing of trumpeter Joe Bruno Sr. on December 22, 2025 —who may have been the oldest professional trumpeter in the country being 98 and a half at the time of his death—Kevin stepped forward to honor his legacy. Suncoast Concert Band conductor Bob Stoll introduces the song with a wonderful story about Pops early days 36 years ago with the band. Kevin spent decades sitting next to Joe, who was a true master of the trumpet. Even at age 98, Joe was still playing big band solos that turned heads every time he lifted the horn. Playing this solo was deeply difficult for Kevin and the band—technically and emotionally. But on January 25, 2026, Kevin played his heart out, and his tribute moved everyone in the room. Christine, Nick, and Pops’ brother Charlie were seated in the front of the audience as Kevin played. In moments like that, we’re reminded that my dad will always be with us every time we play. He spent 21 years living with us—performing with us on stage and in our living room, and appearing on countless YouTube livestreams with our pets Lionel, Bix, and Olivia. Lionel, our piano-playing cat, became part of the show, while Bix and Olivia were always nearby, part of the music and the family. Those years were filled with music, laughter, and a bond that will never fade. Play on, Pop. Your horn is still in the room and in our hearts
