Presented by Katie Murphy, Interim Director of the Moving Minds Alliance, during the Reporters for Early Age Children in Humanitarian Crisis (REACH) quarterly meeting. The REACH Network is a global movement of reporters committed to improving care and support for young children and their caregivers in contexts of emergency, displacement, and crisis through impactful journalism. This collaborative initiative is bringing together media professionals from 30 low- and middle-income countries currently experiencing various forms of humanitarian crises, including: Sudan, Occupied Palestinian Territory, Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Syria, South Sudan, Lebanon, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Somalia, Afghanistan, Yemen, Ethiopia, Central African Republic, Venezuela, Chad, Honduras, Mozambique, and other crisis-affected contexts such as Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Jordan, Nepal, and India. The objectives of the REACH Network are to: Raise Awareness – Shine a spotlight on overlooked humanitarian hotspots and the specific needs of young children and their caregivers. Build Evidence – Strengthen advocacy by aligning journalistic investigations with research findings to create a robust body of evidence. Advocate for Local Solutions – Promote the scaling of local humanitarian responses, inclusive policies, and increased resources for local actors in crisis settings.
