Are You Worshiping God the Right Way? Day 4 – Worship That Pleases God (Genesis 4:1–26) Key Verse: "If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him." Genesis 4:7 Devotional Reflection: Genesis 4 is far more than the tragic story of two brothers. It marks the beginning of a spiritual struggle every human heart must confront: The battle between true and false worship, between humility and jealousy, between submission and rebellion. Cain and Abel both brought offerings to the Lord. But Scripture shows us—what mattered was not just what they brought, but how they brought it. “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice…” (Hebrews 11:4, KJV) Abel came with reverence, with a heart of trust and humility. Cain came with calculation—perhaps with pride or self-justification. He gave, but not in faith. And when God accepted Abel’s offering and not Cain’s, something dark stirred in Cain’s heart: Jealousy. Offense. Anger. Instead of repenting, he fumed. Instead of seeking God, he resented his brother. Sisters, how often do we face the same crossroads? We see someone else being blessed, and instead of rejoicing, we compare. We feel overlooked, and instead of trusting God’s timing, we grow resentful. Like Cain, we are tempted to believe that if God blesses someone else, there’s somehow less left for us. But here comes the grace of God: He doesn’t abandon Cain. He speaks to him. Warns him. Invites him to do what is right. "Sin lieth at the door… and thou shalt rule over him." (v.7) Did you catch that? God doesn’t just expose Cain’s sin—He empowers Cain to overcome it. Sin is crouching, yes. It desires you. But through surrender, you can rule over it. And even after Cain ignores the warning and commits the first murder, the story doesn’t end in darkness. At the close of the chapter, hope reappears: "Then began men to call upon the name of the LORD." (v.26) Even in the aftermath of rebellion, God plants a seed of revival. Personal Application: Examine your worship: Are you giving from a heart of faith—or out of obligation, resentment, or self-reliance? Are jealousy or comparison robbing your joy? Ask God to help you respond with trust and repentance. Prayer: Lord, search my heart and reveal what truly drives my worship. Is it faith or fear? Surrender or striving? Forgive me for the times I’ve compared myself to others or held on to jealousy. Help me not to hide or harden my heart like Cain, but to come before You like Abel—in humility, faith, and love. Let my life be an offering that pleases You. In Jesus’ name, Amen. ------------------------ A gentle note for our community: Some visuals or elements in this video may be created or enhanced with AI and artistic tools to help illustrate the message in a peaceful, meaningful way.
