How does the gender of a trial lawyer influence juror perceptions? In discussing the latest research on gender bias, Dr. Katrina Cook will discuss how gender plays out in the courtroom and the jury room, offering practical tips for handling the challenges faced by today’s female attorneys. This webinar covers: • The historical and recent findings of social-science research on how jurors perceive women attorneys • How presentation style can help or hinder the effects of gender bias in the courtroom • How best to overcome the challenges of being a female member of the trial team • The benefits of a diverse trial team • Strategies for capitalizing on the strengths of being a woman in the courtroom Dr. Cook has 11 years of practical application, study, and research in legal communication, jury consulting, and cognitive psychology. She has conducted and designed mock trials and experimental studies assessing jurors’ attitudes toward the facts of a case and other factors that may influence their judgments. As part of that research, she has examined how female attorneys are viewed by jurors, how additional factors interact with gender to affect jurors’ perceptions of the credibility of female attorneys, and how female attorneys can mitigate the challenges they face.
