In this video (part 1), I mold a resin pattern using TC-5130F silicone thickened with SC-5001 thickening agent and FiberThick. This video explains the use of shims to create a 2 part silicone mold. This technique may be used to create multi-part molds for resin casting, art bronze, and similar applications. This technique is ideal for patterns that are too fragile to use a clay wall or "splitter board." This is not a technique I would recommend for beginners, so make sure you understand the basics of working with platinum silicone as well as brush-on molds before you use this method. Platinum silicones are sensitive to cure inhibition so make sure all the materials and clay (or other pattern) are compatible before you start! See the endscreen for additional resources. Stay tuned for part 2 where I explain how to make a resin mother-mold and how to open the mold and remove the shim material.
