Department of Transportation - Cordillera Administrative Region (DOTr-CAR) Regional Director Glenn G. Dumlao clarifies key concerns during the press conference on the fare hike and fuel-related issues in the Cordillera region, held March 17 in La Trinidad, Benguet. The fare increase is driven by rising fuel prices, with adjustments already implemented for public utility buses (PUBs). Guidelines for PUJs and taxis, remain pending and are subject to consultations with LGUs and transport groups. Around 8,500 transport operators and drivers in the region are expected to benefit from fuel subsidies, though distribution may face delays due to banking processes and data validation. Authorities also warned that violations such as overcharging may result in suspension or cancellation of franchises, as monitoring and coordination with concerned sectors continue. In a video message on March 18, he directed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to postpone the increase, emphasizing the need to support commuters, including workers and students, who rely on public transportation daily. The move comes despite the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board having approved a petition for a fare increase for almost all public utility vehicles (PUVs) including including jeepneys, buses, UV Express and taxis following a series of oil price hikes. To ease the burden on the public, Marcos also instructed the DOTr to roll out free rides nationwide and implement discounted fares on MRT and LRT lines, as well as lower toll fees. He assured transport workers that the government will increase financial support to help them cope with losses. #DOTrCAR #LTFRB #FareHike #Cordillera #Benguet #LaTrinidad #TransportPH #FuelSubsidy #PUJ #Taxi #Commuters
