In this tutorial, we explain how to control DC motors by using STM32 microcontrollers, C programming language and STM32CubeIDE development environment. We explain how to generate the pulse width modulation (PWM) signals for controlling the motor rotation speed and we explain how to change the motor angle of rotation. Here you can see our experimental setup. Currently, the motor rotates for 3 seconds in one direction and after his time interval, it rotates for 3 seconds in the opposite direction. The experimental setup consists of (1) Low cost brushed DC motor (2) Low-cost L298N motor driver (3) Nucleo-64 STM32 microcontroller development board (4) Power supply (5) Oscilloscope used to visualize the PWM signals The STM32 microcontroller generates PWM signals for controlling the motor. The generated PWM signal is shown over here. In addition, the microcontroller generates two additional digital signals used to control the motor direction of rotation. These signals are used to control both the speed and direction of rotation of the motor.
