SANS 2021 Blitz Talk Presentation Taylor Guthrie It has been a long standing goal of social neuroscience to try and understand perceptions of self and others. Traditionally, researchers have either used fictional characters as others to invoke social cognitive processes or they have had subjects individually select different real others such as best friends or relatives. Round robin designs address the limitations in both of these approaches by using real people as others but also by recruiting groups of individuals in which every subject of a group is both a perceiver and a target for all other perceivers in their group. This allows us to compare brain representations of particular real other person across subjects and allows us to see if individual difference measures modulate the degree of similarity in brain activity. We show here many ways that this approach can be applied and the different types of analyses that are possible with this type of dataset.
