My plan was to have it out before the end of last year, but ended up having to go into overtime on it. I put more hours into this one than almost any other that I've done. I think maybe the Wind Waker Medley and Corridors of Time had a little more, but this was close. I've put something like 30-40 hours in on it. This song is very personal for me and I've been playing it for a long time. I wrote this when I was a senior in high school and won the school talent show with it, haha. That was ten years ago. I decided, when I wrote it, that I would never change it. That it would be like a compositional time capsule. The only things that are different is I changed one note in the picking pattern and changed the words to "the people I've known" from "the people I know". Other than that, it's exactly the same. The amazing thing is how the words have only become truer and more relevant over the years. When I was graduating high school, my dream was to be successful musician and I knew that in any case that career path would require me to leave the place where I grew up. So I guess that I knew that this song would be relevant for those times when I was feeling homesick. Things didn't exactly go as planned, but I did end up moving away a couple of times and it was only then that I realized how dear my home truly was to me. I now live in the same area that I grew up in (Oregon coast) and I finally realized that this is where my heart truly beats and I would not rather settle down anywhere else in the whole world. This song is the embodiment of that. I've played it live dozens of times and someone from the audience always asks me to play it again at the end of my set. It's actually part one in a series of three songs. The second part, I finished shortly after writing the first one, but never finished the third. Maybe I'll share those ones with you guys some day. I feel like this recording of this song is at about 80% of where I'd like it to be. I could get it to that 100% if I put another 30 hours into it, but I feel like I've already delayed it way too long and I need to get things moving on my channel again. There are a few vocal lines that could use more takes, but overall, I'm really happy with it. So glad I had the idea to throw that slide guitar in there because I think it really ties the whole thing together. This was also my first time using Superior Drummer. I've been wanting to learn it so that I can get uploads out faster without always having to worry about recording drums. I'll still be doing live drums the majority of the time, but it's nice to have a backup plan just in case. One of my new year's resolutions is to do 12 original songs this year, one every month. No idea if that will happen, but I'm going to try. As always, thanks for listening. Written, recorded and produced by me LYRICS I am just passing through But I'll sing just one song before I do If there's one thing you remember about me I'd like to be buried by the sea I've seen changes come and I've watched them go I've seen people change, the people I've known But if I can't help them, don't you see? I'd like to be buried by the sea I have not been home since I don't when But I still think of you every now and again Your eyes make me wish I was free But I'd like to be buried by the sea Now that I'm done, I'll be moving on To places afar to sing all my songs If there's one thing you remember about me I'd like to be buried by the sea
