Named for Dr. C.D. Watkins, a beloved physician in the Southwest Licking area, the new Watkins Memorial High School opened in 1955. After a few years, a junior high school was organized in the high school building. Much has happened with the school campus since 1955. Included in the video is a brick recovered by a classmate from our original Watkins Memorial high school I attended in the early 1970’s that’s being demolished and will probably be a parking lot soon. I know it’s at the end of its lifetime being 70 years old, but I can’t help from being sad about its demolition. This video is a small reminder for those that attended school in this building, be it elementary, jr. high, middle or high school over those 70 years. There are a few interior shots inside the school right before demolition along with dramatic outside video of the demolition in progress.
