New Year river treasures...

Doggy paddle in the river... Recent rains have turned many of the rivers here to a murky boiling soup, so it's been time to take stock, and look forward to cool sparkling Spring water. Here's a look back at a handful of smaller finds which have revealed themselves at different times through this long winter. My favourite has to be the small spaniel, who loyally joins more river found canine friends.During the 19th century small dogs became deeply fashionable companions. Queen Victoria herself was famously devoted to dogs, especially her beloved King Charles Spaniel, Dash. As her closest childhood companion and confidant during a lonely upbringing, Dash was famously given his usual bath by the Queen immediately after her 1838 coronation.
