So many Christians are waiting for the day that our Savior, Jesus Christ, returns. Yet sometimes it’s hard to truly imagine what that will feel like. I’ve often thought that if we were more in harmony with what it would feel like to be in His presence, our invitation of “Come, Lord Jesus, Come” would be so powerful that we would become a people ready to receive our God. In Doctrine and Covenants 84, Jesus says that before He comes, “all shall know me, who remain, even from the least unto the greatest, and shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, and shall see eye to eye, and shall lift up their voice, and with the voice together sing this new song.” What follows are the lyrics to the song that we will sing at His coming (D&C 84:99-102). As I pondered this song, I wondered how it might sound. What would it feel like to be in that chorus, singing to our beloved Redeemer? That is when I set out to craft a melody that might fit these lyrics. Prayerfully, I asked if it would be alright for me to try to create some music for this great hymn of praise. I felt that He was pleased that I wanted to try. Of course, my melody may never be the one we sing. But for now, I hope it helps you feel a little of what that moment may be like—and that His Spirit may fill you with hope, peace, and the power of the gospel of the Preparation of Peace. Lyrics: Doctrine and Covenants 84:99-102 Music: Marnie Pehrson Kuhns
