Steins, New Mexico started as a stagecoach stop. Then the railroad stopped here, at the top of the pass, to take on water for their steam engines. Then miners came to pull gold, silver, and copper out of the nearby mountains. When the metals played out, miners left. The railroad no longer needed water for their engines and stopped stopping. The town was abandoned, Once a tourist attraction, Steins is now closed to the public although a few people are still here. The ghost town is on I-10, near the Arizona- New Mexico border, and would make an easy and quick stop to take a look back into the history of the Old West.
