Many Russian people celebrate Victory Day every 9th of May each year. Victory Day is a public holiday. Victory Day is a national holiday in Russia. It is a special day for all Russian people. Victory Day is the day when the Great Patriotic War finished. For the Soviet Union, the war started on the 22nd of June 1941. War lasted for 4 years. It was a very hard time for everyone. In many Russian cities and villages there was starvation. Millions of Soviet soldiers died in this War. But they won and became heroes to every Russian person. Russian people do not forget their heroes. In every city concerts are held in honor of the Great Patriotic War. Many people here attend a local military parade and watch the fireworks at the night on Victory Day. The symbols of Victory Day in Russia are following: 1) St. George ribbon - people wear this brawn and orange ribbon on their clothes as a sign of respect and remembrance; 2) red star medal is a military sign of bravery, 3) red carnations signifies mourning and remembrance. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren thank veterans for freedom. The songs “Victory Day “, “Katyusha” are played everywhere.
