Standard 8 movie footage, filmed in Lewes East Sussex with a Bolex H8 Rex in July 1986 of South Downs Morris, a Morris Side then run by BHASVIC Art Tutor Phil Everitt; the musicians at the time were Roger Watson & Ian Mc Ilroy on Melodian and ocassionally Tony Dunn on Concertina. Filmed at the Lewes Folk Day / Festival that year. The accompanying sides were: Royal George and Mary Rose. Dancers I can recall were at the time, Clive Mills, Chris Edmondson, Mike Hindle, Mike Murphy (Me), Tony Dunn, Mike Hadden and Mark Scholfield, Phil Everitt, Wilbur, (aka the Bold Slasher), Mark doesn't seem to be present here in the film. The Dances shown look to be: 'Morning Star' 'Idbury Hill' 'Lumps Of Plum Pudding' (Jig) 'Young Collins' 'Monk's March' 'Glorishers' 'Idbury Hill' (again Chris thinks) 'Upton' (Upton Upon Severn Stick Dance) Plus a snippet of a hankie dance right at the end that may be 'Cuckoo's Nest'. Ian McIlroy who you see playing every set (was Roger Watson away at the time touring), now has a Cajun band, still gigging, still playing, my brother too! Chris Edmondson taught Inner London Comprehensive Schools for 32 years before retiring to the sleepy hamlet of Bexhill On Sea where he sells luxury burgers from a van and helps people as a Paramedic/1st responder. Mike Hindle is a well know and highly successful painter` living in Cornwall, I sell wood and had an Lp out last year, Phil the gaffer passed away relatively young, and a few years ago now too, as did my own dad Barry Murphy who filmed this, in some cases rather poorly it has to be said :-) ... Wilbur was a postman, and now works for Infinity Foods in Brighton, he's still with Mouse (I think!), and Beth is about (Mouse's daughter), two close friends who followed our exploits as we did theirs (Mouse Danced for Windsor Ladies as I recall) and Betty 'Woz Here' once upon a time.. Tony Dunn ran a Photographic company for many years, before getting into teaching, Honcho (Mike Hadden) was apparently a Maths teach at BHASVIC where Phil taught Art, and Mike, Chris and Clive originally studied. I met Mike and Chris at Hastings College of Art where I was then studying. This was transferred literally against a wall, cobbling together a load of bollocks with a 110v Bolex Paillard projector... I only did a couple of seasons and a handful of guest dances, my brother Chris Murphy though joined and danced for many years & seasons. I found the Standard 8 reel not knowing it existed, and it's the only picture or film of my dancing with a group of people I'm still very much friends with. If you have any information to add, please add to the comments, perhaps I can edit this as they come in.. The Music is Nic Jones and Alice Gerrard. These were good times.
