Sudan's RSF makes critical advance, takes strategic oil field

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have captured Sudan's strategic Heglig oil field in South Kordofan, marking a significant territorial gain. This follows a surprising year of shifting conflict; while the Sudanese army had reclaimed key areas like Khartoum in January, the RSF regrouped in Darfur and later seized major cities like el-Fasher. Their current push into Kordofan has raised fears of an advance towards the central city of el-Obeid. and the capital, Khartoum. Despite the army's strategy of tactical withdrawals, the prolonged war shows no sign of ending, with failed peace initiatives and devastating humanitarian costs.
