Long shot of boys playing in street in centre of Jenin STORYLINE: Israelis troops have entered the Palestinian town of Jenin and conducted house-to-house searches in an neighbourhood which saw heavy fighting during Operation Defensive Shield earlier this year. Israel's Army Radio reported that elements of a naval commando unit had succeeded in arresting a man described as the Hamas commander in the northern part of the West Bank. Israeli helicopters clattered overhead as a column of jeeps and APCs entered the city. There were no reports of the Israeli soldiers meeting any resistance, but recently Israeli patrols have been ambushed on the outskirts of Jenin on an almost daily basis. The incursion into Jenin on Monday came as Israel is gradually relinquishing control of other West Bank cities to Palestinian security forces.
