May 2024 Update - Easiest way to get Power Point Slides into Anki. Hello, my name is Stacey Kennedy and I have been using Anki software for over 12 plus years. I think Anki is an incredible study tool. But like any tool the more you use it, the more efficient you get at using it. Once you start using Anki you quickly learn that getting the study material into Anki can be time consuming. Today, I would like to show you how I quickly convert PPT slides into Anki cards. First, Let me give you and overview and then I will detail each step. This is my 4 STEP process of how to transfer power point slides into Anki. We will need the following: 1) Anki version 2.1.55 or higher from here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/ 2) Anki “MediaImport_2” addon can be found here: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/12929... Step 1 – Export Power Point Slides into PNG files 1. Open the Power Point file in Power Point software 2. From top menu select File / Save as / Select Folder 3. Save as: PNG Portable Network Graphic Format (*.png) 4. Which slides do you want to export: All slides 5. The slides will go into the directory and have default names: Slide_1, Slide_2, … Step 2 – Use File Explorer to rename the PNG files so they will have unique date stamped names for each slide. 1. Open the Folder and hit Ctrl-A to select all the files in the directory. 2. Right click and rename using mm-dd-year format. Ex: 05-20-2024 3. All of the files will get renamed with the date and (n) subscript. Ex: 05-20-2024 (1-2-3-4-5- ) 4. Having these unique names is important for the Anki media database to keep track of the PNG files. We do not want import duplicate named files. If you did not change the generic “Slide_1” name and performed another import in the future with the another file named “Slide_1” Anki would replace the original “Slide_1” thinking you were updating the picture. Step 3 – Use Media Import_2 addon to import the images into “Basic Note type Cards”. 1. Open Anki 2. Select Tools / Media Import_2 3. Select the Media directory folder where you want to place the files. 4. Select the card type to "Basic" card type 5. Map the Front field to: Media 6. Map the Back field to: blank 7. Select OK to import the 4 cards into a new automatically created Anki folder called Media Import. Step 4 – Create new cards by opening each card and creating new Image Occlusion cards. 1. Start by clicking the Media Import folder and hitting Study Now. This will bring up the first basic card. 2. Hit E to Edit the card or you can click to Edit button near the top center of the screen. 3. Once you are in the Edit window, Press the Image Occlusion Edit button in the top menu. 4. Draw a box over the parts of the image you want to Image Occlude. 5. Press the “Hide one, Show one” button. The new Image Occlusion cards have been created. Step 5 – Delete all of the original Basic cards that do not have Occlusions. 1. Go to Browser 2. Add column at top to sort by Card type 3. Delete all the “Basic” cards and move them to a separate deck so they will be available if you want to make additional cards from them.
