Busted: 3 Top Leadership Myths

When you think of a leader, who or what comes to mind? Do you believe there’s a certain formula for being a leader? Well, what if I told you it wasn’t true? I’m Glenn Taylor with Skybound Coaching & Training. And in this video, we’re going to be busting some leadership myths. If you’re anything like I was, you probably have some limiting beliefs about leadership. And chances are, those beliefs are preventing you from fully embracing it or having the impact you want as a leader. Myth #1: Leaders are only those with managerial titles. Truth is, if you’ve never spent the time to develop your leadership skills, they won’t just kick in the minute you become a manager. I mean, haven’t we all had at least one bad boss in our lifetimes? Leadership is less about a title and more about how you show up - how you communicate with and relate to others. Myth #2: Leaders are born, not made. Have you ever thought to yourself, “Well, some people just have that magical leadership formula, but I wasn’t born a leader so it’ll always be harder for me”? Ok, I don’t deny that we’re all a mix of nature and nurture. But, chances are, many of those “natural born leaders” are just regular muggles who’ve worked really hard to develop those qualities over time. And guess what … you can too! Myth #3: All leaders have big charismatic personalities. Too many think being a leader means being an extrovert or a “shark”, or worse, that one terrible boss you worked for and never want to become yourself. But we’ve seen plenty of impactful leaders who don’t fit that mold -- Rosa Parks, Bill Gates, and Einstein are just a few examples. Truth is – and this is really the good part – you’ll be way more impactful as a leader when you tap into greater authenticity. That means when you bring more of YOUR real personality, quirks, qualities, and experiences to the table. So now it’s your turn.
