FRIDAY 09 JULY 2010 • NILE • Rotterdam Ahoy, The Netherlands LINEUP Marcus Miller (bass, bass clarinet); Alex Han (alto sax); Sean Jones (trumpet); Federico Gonzalez Pena (keyboard); Louis Cato (drums). ABOUT this concert: Bass player and clarinetist Marcus Miller (1959) has blown the roof off the North Sea Jazz Festival many times over the past decades. And without a doubt he will do so again. With his project Tutu Revisited, named after the album Tutu by Miles Davis on which Miller worked as a writer and producer, he presents the most important recordings in the history of jazz. Bass legend Miller, famed for his slapping technique, started out as a session musician and producer. He has worked together with legends like Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, David Sanborn and the aforementioned Miles Davis. On his most recent CD, A Night in Monte Carlo, Miller shapes jazz standards like So What and I Loves You Porgy to his funky hand. This year, he will come to Ahoy with trumpeter Sean Jones, who will perform the parts Davis once played. Who knows, perhaps Sanborn might blow a tune with them.
