Tripura is a 3rd small hilly state located at North eastern region of India. There are 19 different Tribes in Tripura, each with a distinct cultural heritage, living in great communal harmony. Their Folk dances with sweet melodies of traditional string instruments and the drums attract all section of people. Lebang Bumani dance is one of the beautiful dance of the Tripuri Community of Tripura. After the Garia festival is over, Tripuris have time to rest, awaiting the monsoon. The annual visit of the insects prompts the tribal youths to indulge in merry making. While the men-folk make a peculiar rhythmic sound with the help of two bamboo sticks in their hands, the women-folk run tottering the hill slopes to catch hold of these insects called 'Lebang'. The rhythm of the sound made by the bamboo sticks attracts the insects from their hidings places and the women in groups catch them. With the passage of time, Jhuming on hill slopes is gradually diminishing. But the cultural life that developed, centering on the Jhum, delved deep into society. It still exists in the state's hills and dales as a reminiscence of life, which the tribal people of today cherish in memory and preserve as treasure. In this dance, Tripuris use musical Instruments like the Khum(Drum), flute, Sarinda and bamboo cymbals. Tripuri women generally put on indigenous ornaments like chains made of silver with coins, bangles made of silver, ear and nose rings made of bronze and flowers on their hands.
