today we will be exploring a beautiful 1870s Victorian era farmhouse. this is one of my favorite abandoned houses in the area and i stop by often to visit it. sadly the house has sat abandoned for several decades and has been destroyed by vandals and mother nature. this house is proposed for demolition, luckily i was able to document it before that happens. History: This one-and-a-half story red and yellow brick farm house was constructed in 1874n which is identified by a date stone on the house that reads Alex M. A.D. 1874”. Alex. lived on the property with his wife Marcia and named the house ‘Rose Farm’. There family played a significant role in the development of the Township. The house contains cultural heritage value because of its good example of a side-hall or gabled Gothic Revival farmhouse, It displays a high degree of craftsmanship in its masonry detailing, its association with a family who played a significant role in the overall development of the Township, its potential it has to yield information that contributes to an understanding of the early agricultural development of the township and the affluence of farmers in the community during the mid nineteenth century. the property holds contextual value as the property is important in maintaining and supporting the rural character of the area through its open fields, relict orchards, and dispersed farmsteads set back a distance from the road. The house is vacant and proposed for demolition along with several other historic homes. a new industrial park will soon be built on the property.
