In this exclusive first drive of the all-new Pershing GTX80, Jack Haines gets behind the wheel of the latest addition to the Pershing line-up. The GTX range shows a softer side of Pershing; less about out-and-out performance and more about cruising comfort and space to relax and sleep on board. Don’t get us wrong, it will still top out at 34 knots thanks to a trio of Volvo Penta IPS1300 (1,000hp) but compared to the near 50-knot top speed of its stablemate, the 8X, it’s more sedate. The flybridge is a good example of how leisure-focused the GTX range is. Often the top deck of a Pershing is just somewhere to drive from but here there is a dinette, wet bar and sun pad all protected by a carbon fibre hard top. Lower down, the folding balconies and clever hydraulic bathing platform create a superb water-level terrace. This is the first Pershing to have a main deck galley but despite this, there is still plenty of space for a dining area and comfortable lounge.
