Among the many ways that the Chinese used for classical diagnosis, of which there were many, they also included the famous pulse evaluation or pulse diagnosis, where a practitioner would feel the patients pulse located on the radial artery at the wrist. However, in modern day practice this is not the only method of meridian evaluation that is available. It was a Japanese medical doctor named Nakatani who introduced electro-acupuncture and electro-meridian-imaging. Using a computer, this method allowed for the creation of a visual picture of the energy levels in the acupuncture meridian system, based on evaluating electrical conductivity in the skin, at the key points on the meridians. The best known method uses points found on the wrists and ankles, which determines the level of vitality flowing through all 24 channels, with 12 meridians found on both the left and right side of the body. This measurement takes place at what’s known as the Source point on each channel.
