37 Seconds (2019) - Japanese Movie Review

Erik, the Asian Movie Enthusiast presents: A review of “37 Seconds”, a Japanese movie from 2019. Our protagonist is a 23-year-old girl with cerebral palsy. She lives with her very protective mother who controls basically every part of her life. The only time she’s out of her house is when she goes to work and makes manga drawings. She’s actually pretty talented at it, but her business partner is an attractive and popular girl who basically takes credit for her work. So her only outlet for personal growth and development is also being stifled. Well, our protagonist has had just about enough of this nonsense, so she interviews with some other manga publishers and comes across a science fiction sex magazine that interests her. The editor tells her that her work is good, but that she lacks “worldly experience.” She recommends our protagonist to try and engage in sexual intercourse to make her work more genuine. And the story goes from there, with our protagonist coming-of-age and attempting to win some form of independence. This is a really good film that I strongly recommend.
