Helsinki Walk: Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, October 2021, Finland. Seurasaari is an island and a district in Meilahti area, known mostly as the location of the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, which consists of old, mainly wooden buildings transplanted from elsewhere in Finland. The museum was established in 1909 to showcase local and historical wood building around different regions and the 87 separate buildings give an overall view of the life in Finnish countryside from the 18th to the 20th. During the walk one can see not all but most of these buildings. Every summer, many Helsinkians come to Seurasaari to enjoy the rural, peaceful outdoor atmosphere. Despite the visitors, the island has a variety of wildlife, especially birds, but also red squirrels and hares. 00:00 Walk begins from a path leading to Seurasaari 1:17 One can take a bus from the city centre next to the island 2:15 Seuraaren silta / Bridge to Seurasaari 4:58 Entering Seurasaari 5:12 Ranger house (Metsänvartijan talo) built in 1890 5:52 Continuing the Seurasaarentie street 7:47 The Ivars farmstead from Närpiö, Ostrobothnia / Pohjanmaa 8:06 Storehouse from Utsjoki (Heinätupa + aitta) 8:19 The Tree Storehouse from Petsamo (Patsasaitta aka Nili) 8:39 The Parsonage from Iisalmi (Iisalmen pappila), built by master-builder Simon Silvén in 1797-98 9:26 Antti farmstead from Säkylä, western Finland (Antin talo) 10:03 Bell tower of Karuna church (Karunan kirkko) 10:30 Smock mill (harakkamylly) from Punkalaidun, Western Finland 12:24 Niemelä Tenant Farm (Niemelän torppa) from Central Finland 13:30 Kirkkovene (church boat) 14:13 More of Niemelä Tenant Farm, its sauna from 1786 and cabin from 1844 16:43 Karuna church (Karunan kirkko), oldest building of the museum, built in 1685-86 17:39 Kahiluoto Manor House (Kahiluodon kartano) from Western Finland, built in 1790 18:38 Granaries (aitta) from western Finland 20:03 Pertinotsa house from Karelia 20:25 Kaukola smoke cottage (Kaukolan savutupa) and its granaries 21:51 Pertinotsa house from behind 22:45 Yusupoff Stable (Jusupoffin talli) from Helsinki, built in 1840s by the Russian noblewoman Zenaida Yusupova 23:30 Telephone booth (Puhelinkioski) from 1913, Helsinki 23:56 'Pikku Helsinki' showcasing 19th century life of Helsinki from Kaivopuisto area 24:25 Leppälä cottage (Leppälän mökki) from Loimaa, Southwest Finland 25:13 19th century country store (Maalaiskauppa) from Savitaipale, South Karelia 26:23 Smock mill (mamsellimylly) from Oripää, Southwest Finland, built in 1894 28:33 Forest path 29:84 Restaurant 'Seurasaaren Kruunu', built in 1890 30:31 Down the stairs towards the sea 32:10 Seurasaari pier 33:35 Swans near the beach 34:22 Behind the fence locates Seurasaari baths (Seurasaaren uimala), that has nudist beach, separate areas for women and men 35:20 Some sort of abandoned storage 36:07 Info and history about the baths 36:40 Continuing the path next to sea 39:30 Seurasaari public beach (Seurasaaren uimaranta) 43:06 Back at Seurasaari bridge 44:39 Small extra route in Pukkisaari island 46:09 Swans under the bridge The approximate route: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/60.18...
