Since the release of Pax Pamir I have been exploring the Pax series and I have been constantly amazed by its depth and the way it approaches history. One of the most fascinating entries in the series is Pax Renaissance. I thought that a great way to explore this game would be to play it with someone that knows the game and the series very well, so I reached out to Dan Thurot, the creator of arguably the most fantastic board game review website out there: Space-Biff. For emotional support and clever gameplay, I also invited Joe Dewhurst. If you already know the game, I highly recommend skipping to the debrief discussion where Dan, Joe and I discuss the game, its history and its place in the Pax series. The rules teach is made so that we don't go into all the details upfront. We wanted to show as fast as possible the gameplay. The reason is that the rules might feel overwhelming initially, but when playing, it all falls into place. Pax Renaissance 2nd Edition is a game for 1 to 4 players where you play as a banker in Europe at the height of the Renaissance during the late 15th and early 16th-century. It was published in 2021 by Ion Games design. As a Renaissance banker, you will finance kings or republics, sponsor voyages of discovery, join secret cabals, or unleash jihads and inquisitions. Your choices determine if Europe is elevated into the bright modern era or remains festering in dark feudalism. Four victories determine the future course of Western Society.
