What is Keratoconus? Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease characterized by the thinning and tapering of the outermost layer of the eye, called the cornea. The cornea's transformation into a conical structure prevents light from being refracted properly and causes vision disorders. What is CAIRS Treatment? CAIRS (Corneal Allogenic Intrastromal Ring Segments) treatment is an innovative method used to stabilize and shape the cornea in keratoconus disease. This technique can be applied especially in advanced keratoconus cases or in patients who do not respond to other treatment methods. How is CAIRS Treatment Applied? In CAIRS treatment, thin corneal tissue rings taken from a corneal tissue donor (allogeneic) and sterilized are placed on the patient's cornea. This procedure supports the thinned areas of the cornea and allows it to take a more regular shape. The procedure usually includes the following steps: 1. Preparing the rings: The tissue taken from the donor cornea is shaped into rings. 2. Creation of the corneal tunnel: A tunnel for the ring is opened in the cornea with a femtosecond laser or a manual technique. 3. Placement of the rings: The prepared tissue rings are carefully placed in the opened tunnel. Advantages of CAIRS • Biological compatibility: Since allogenic corneal tissue is used, it is well tolerated by the body. • Preservation of corneal integrity: Shape correction is performed without damaging the natural tissue of the cornea. • Long-term results: It can stop the progression of keratoconus and improve the quality of vision. Combined treatment option: CAIRS can usually be combined with methods such as corneal cross-linking (CXL) to achieve more effective results. Who is it suitable for? • Patients with advanced keratoconus • People who are not suitable for the corneal ring placement (ICRS) method • Patients who need to be stabilized before corneal transplantation Our address: BahriSaritepe Cd No49 45030 Yunusemre Manisa TURKIYE For appointment: https://ilkerbicer.com/onlinerandevu Web: https://ilkerbicer.com/ Music: bensound.com License code: HVU5CWQSM5GKLZHS
